Property Tax Rates in Canada, 2026
Residential rates in 88 cities, with the change from 2025
In 2026, residential property tax rates in the 88 Canadian cities below run from 0.2775% in Whistler to 2.0965% in Windsor. On a home assessed at $500,000, that is $1,388 to $10,483 a year. Compared with 2025, the rate went up in 68 of 87 cities and down in 14; the median change was +3.8%. A lower rate does not always mean a lower bill: the bill is the rate times the assessed value, and B.C. and Alberta assess homes near their market value every year while Ontario still uses 2016 values.

* The rate changed with a new or phased-in assessment roll, so the bill changed less than the rate: see the city's page.
Each rate is the total on a home's bill (city, regional or county, and education or school taxes) as a share of its assessed value, from each city's published 2026 rates. Flat fees on the same bill, such as water or garbage charges, are not included.
