Using Our Data

Last updated October 2, 2026

HousingPortal.ca's market reports compile the monthly statistics that Canada's real estate boards publish, and its property tax pages compile the rates that cities set each year. This page explains where those figures come from and how you can use them.

Quoting our figures

You are welcome to quote, chart and discuss the figures from our reports and property tax pages, in articles, research, presentations, social media posts or the answers of AI assistants, as long as you:

  • Credit HousingPortal.ca and the source of the figures, for example: “Source: HousingPortal.ca, from Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB) data.”
  • Link to the page you took them from, wherever the format allows it.

You do not need to ask us first.

Where the figures come from

Each report names its source at the foot of the page:

Some figures are calculated here rather than printed by the board, such as an all-homes average weighted from a board's averages by home type. The glossary on each report says which ones. Boards also revise recent months as late sales are recorded, so the charts show the figures of each board's latest report.

Property tax rates come from each city's published rates or tax bylaw, linked on the city's page.

What this does not cover

  • The statistics belong to the boards and cities that publish them. For more than quoting, such as republishing complete tables or monthly series, or using them in a product you sell, check the source's own terms or ask it directly.
  • Our text, guides, tools and page design are © HousingPortal.ca, all rights reserved. Please do not copy our pages or scrape the site to republish its content.

Accuracy

We check each month's figures against the board's own totals before publishing, but errors can slip through, and the figures are provided as is, without any warranty. If you spot one, please tell us.
